She Became the Dream

By Tarryn Booysen

To dream an impossible dream from the unedged corners of my soul

Pyramids of unfulfilled wishes still looming between prayers

A lustful heart reaching out to what should have been

A dream never meant to come true

He existed somewhere between nostalgia and deja vu

She’d put his name out into the universe but he never manifested

He became a distant memory and she became unstoppable.

Her words cherished by her peers. The world changed as she breathed daily.

Mentally and physically broken yet picking up pieces of those still fighting.

Amandla! She cheers in hopes of being heard

She was never made to be boxed, shackled or controlled

She became the change, she became the world she longed for.

All things subsided.

She became the dream.
