A Poem
By Sbu Simelane
You are alive in my dreams
The echo of your breath
calmly quells the erupting
shadows In my throat
In my waking misery
No one notices how much
of the sky is missing
No one hears the
galloping grief coming
They all tell me to breathe
to remember how to exist
I suppose we all have stories we tell ourselves
so that breathing doesn’t sound like burial
My stories are always about your dreams
That is the only place
where I am still alive
