Watch me burn

A Poem

By Amir Bagheri

Set me alight and watch me burn
Let my body cry from this feverish love
I found in you

Let me dive deep
Into the oceans
That our foremothers sailed;
For us.

Don’t forget that these waters
Still hold that magic
They left,
For us,
To heal our wounds with;
Caused by these earthly fires.

I want my spirit to fly out into the cosmos
Where our souls first met,
Laughed,
Cried,
And made love.

I want to free myself from the past
So I can wander again.
I want to float around
the never-ending spaces.

But for time-being,
Set me alight
And watch me burn
Into the cosmos.
