In Conversation with Nasty C

An Interview

By Amir Bagheri

Odd Magazine’s Amir Bagheri had the honour of, once again, sitting down with the award-winning rapper, Nasty C. The conversation includes catching up on the reception of Nasty C’s Zulu Man in Japan documentary, his contributions to South Africa’s urban fashion scene, and his new and brilliant podcast series, Zulu Man With Some Power Podcast.

The Def Jam signed rapper and producer launched his seven-part podcast series on the 25th of February, following the release of his third studio album of the same name, Zulu Man With Some Power. The podcast looks to share the raw and unfiltered details about Nasty C’s life, origins, and interests. The rapper also speaks about the business of music, signing with an international label, his chart-topping music, and experiences touring multiple countries across Africa. He also speaks candidly about growing an audience in Japan as well as planting his feet in North America. The podcast features producers, artists, DJs, pop culture personalities, and some of the vital figures behind Nasty C’s growing music success. Among these notable features are Troy Taylor, J-Kits, Gemini Major, Whookid, Sizwe Dhlomo, Slikour, as well as Nasty C’s co-manager Yvette Gayle from Africa Creative Agency. The podcast is hosted by TV personality, Moozlie, and sponsored by AMPD Studios and powered by Old Mutual.

I am so thankful to all the people that contributed to the making of this podcast series. I had great conversations with a lot of people that I admire. I got to learn more about them as individuals and even more so, about myself in the process. The podcast series will give fans a glimpse into what my life is about and impart some of my own knowledge and experiences around my particular music-making process and how I handle my business. It’s definitely something to look forward to – Nasty C
