Anticipation through Six Ballpoint Artworks
Awonke Kwinana presents six abstract portraits depicting renditions of what effect anticipation can have on one’s visage.
Siganeko – A Xhosa boy born out of wedlock writes his own narrative with his smile of expectancy.
Tsietsi – A Sotho boy conceived from rape being groomed by the environment of hatred, deception, and pain that enveloped him into a thug in Spoek Town’s streets, an informal settlement in Bekkersdal.
Kayone – With her naïve eyes, she stares at the world.
Ginyigazi – IsiXhosa name that translates to blood swallower, with everything happening at once, losing financial security and thinking it can’t get worse than this, he receives another punch that his partner left him.
Sghegethe – Finding new love, a “ooh who would’ve thought I’d get you” kind of excited, yet having butterflies in the stomach.
